About the Author

Professional Training and Experience

The spiritual guidance offered in The Sacred Dance harmonizes with the most advanced scientific knowledge of human relations. Dr. Wampler earned his Ph.D. in psychology from Vanderbilt University, under the supervision of Professor Emeritus Hans H. Strupp, a renowned pioneer of psychotherapy research. Before that, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Oregon, with a BA in psychology, including many courses in philosophy and comparative religion.

Dr. Wampler went on to complete his internship at the University of California, Davis, Medical Center in Sacramento. Next, he worked at the UCLA Student Counseling Services, and USC School of Medicine, where he served as Intervention Director and Co-Primary Investigator of a clinical research program. For the last twenty-four years he has maintained a private practice.

In addition to counseling, Dr. Wampler has spoken to audiences large and small, at churches, community centers, and on college campuses. He has taught classes through adult education programs. For three years, he served as a consultant at St. Francis Seminary, at the University of San Diego. There, he lead discussion groups and presented seminars on family relations and human sexuality. He has also presented seminars to Catholic clergy and to the ordained deacons of the San Diego Diocese. Sheed and Ward published two of his audio tape programs on forgiveness.
